Oslo Choral Society

Oslo Choral Society is a chamber choir consisting of approximately 25 young singers from the Oslo region. The choir was founded in 1979 by Jon Fylling. The choir focuses on classical sacred choral music, although regularly performs a varied repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary music, and folk tunes of their home country, Norway. The choir's 25 members are between 20 and 40 years of age and strive towards performing church music to a very high standard.

Oslo Choral Society has, among others, performed Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mozart's Requiem and Bach's Saint John Passion with the Norwegian baroque orchestra, Barokkanerne. Striving towards the authentic baroque sound has become one of the trademarks of the choir and its productions. In 2005 the choir toured Norway and Sweden performing a specially commissioned work to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the peaceful separation of the two countries. The program for the past four years included British a capella music, a visit to Hungary with Norwegian repertoire, performing Purcell's opera Dido & Aeneas, and monthly evensongs in Oslo's largest church, Trefoldighetskirken.

Marius Skjølaas has conducted the choir since 2001. He studied church music with professor Kåre Nordstoga and professor Harald Herresthal and conducting with Grete Pedersen at the Norwegian Academy of Music. He has also participated in several masterclasses abroad with professor Eric Ericsson and professor Stefan Parkman.
